The only real issues I've had with Vista 64 were Quicken & QuickBooks, however QuickBooks does have a Vista compatible version, however the web site states Vista 32 rather than Vista 64 and they don't seem to want to reply to any questions. Quicken got dropped in the UK, so I don't expect that there'll ever be a UK Vista compatible version

All the GPL stuff (Firefox, The Gimp, FileZilla and PSPad as the main things I use) all works OK under Vista 64.

Vista 64 is more picky on drivers, but I think this is more down to code signing of anything low level, it's more secure as the drivers need signing, however, it can be a pain with older or unusual hardware, but I've always had issues with drivers when upgrading OS's and Vista was the least expensive in terms of hardware upgrade as everything I bought in the few months before upgrade either had a Vista 64 driver or had built in OS support.

In the end I went for a cheaper model:

Vostro 200
Intel E6750 Core 2 Duo Processor (2.66GHz, 1333Mhz FSB, 4MB cache)
3072MB 667MHz (2x1024 + 2x512) RAM
640GB Serial ATA2 Non Raid (2x320GB) 7200Rpm Dual HDD
22" TFT

I don't need something particularly powerful, but my current PC seems on the way out, and the newer machine will be more powerful than that.

Also, pricing on the Dell website was around £500 + £50 delivery + VAT - however, in their March brochure, it was quoted at £449 + VAT and free delivery, so felt like I got a decent deal.

Very respectable spec. The price of desktops really seems lower than ever which is annoying as I'm now using the laptop almost exclusively

We are a Dell partner and I can say that Vostro 200 is a excellent choice of machine and is capable of handling most business applications with ease and as with all dell machines is backed up by the brands superb aftercare.

Heh, just got the April Dell promo through the door - Vostros from £199.

Lower specs all round, and I prefer to spend more for more, but as my brother is probably looking for a PC now, will have to recommend.
