A short but simple list of major link baiting guides published over the last year or so:
http://www.manishpandey.com/2008/top...ought-to-read/ It really is worth checking out for some nice choice articles. For example, the Andy Hagans article is definitely worth a read: http://tropicalseo.com/2007/andy-hag...dia-marketing/ There's also a nice bit of coverage on how even working within a seriously competitive vertical, baiting can work: http://www.famousagents.com/link-bait-success Enjoy. ![]() ADDED: Here's Lyndon's big link baiting list: http://www.cornwallseo.com/search/in...linkbait-list/

That's some interesting stuff, Brian.
The Ward piece pointed out a lot of things I've been doing instinctively. Or rather, I think a lot of it happens more or less automatically if you're on the trail. I know and have links/recommendations from two of the main "Mexico experts" on the web. It just sort of happened. I'd say it's inevitable in a niche, almost. One thing that ocurred to me was that enemies are almost as useful as friends. Feuds are great for drawing attention. Just let Sun or Torvald say something about Gates and it's on slashdot in ten minutes. At a couple of publications I got columnists to start "feuds" between themselves. One of the most popular and commented on features of the papers. An enemy can't say much about you on the net without linking to you, can he? Not that I'm recommending pissing people off as a marketing ploy (or I'd be rich :-) but it's something that can be used. There are a lot of things in marketing that be flipped 180 degrees and work just as well. I was knocking myself to bring a struggling mail order catalog up to the slick, professional tone of competitors like Early Winters and Sharper Image... then Banana Republic popped in with a folksy little book of crude sketches and folksy meanderings, one color ink on non-clay paper. Guess which company is still around?
