Default Google ranking an aliased domain name over the main domain

Hi Guys your knowledge and thoughts appreciated.

Just noticed that G is ranking our .co.uk domain name far higher than the original .com for certain phrases.

The .co.uk was bought a few months ago and aliased (I think that's the term) via the hosting control panel to the .com - this means that we now have duplicate content, right?

Hosting is on a Windowzs server so I don't think we can do a 301 redirect.

It's possible that Google is simply using an older record of the .co.uk - but I believe there is a way to set up 301 redirects via IIS:

One suggestion here:

http://www.webconfs.com/how-to-redirect-a-webpage.php

Quote:
  • In internet services manager, right click on the file or folder you wish to redirect
  • Select the radio titled "a redirection to a URL".
  • Enter the redirection page
  • Check "The exact url entered above" and the "A permanent redirection for this resource"
  • Click on 'Apply'
A more detailed explanation here:

http://www.highposition.net/301redirect.html

Hope that helps.

This whole .com .co.uk thing has me stumped

On Google.com we do well
On google.co.uk poor
On Yahoo.co.uk we do well
On yahoo.com poor

Get your head around that ha-ha

Are you hosted in the UK, Tracy? I think it's generally advised to host any UK-targeted site in the UK where possible.
