Yes from the receiving end its very annoying. Lot of this may be to do with the trened to outsource all the calling rather than keeping in-house.
Being (once - for my sins) doing the calling (as an agency) we were briefed very strictly by the company that this was a service call providing help and advice (the fact they would then sign up and get a real sales call from a sales professional was neither here nor there) so we were made to stick to the script. And of course we got paid by volumes (so had to make the call) with bonus for conversions (but not enough) So.
