I've never had a business or marketing plan

Actually, it looks like you have a plan. You're buying up forums and domain names in pursuit of building a community, which might result in some profitable marketing niches. Yes? Meanwhile, you're also an SEO consultant. At this point, you might start making some spreadsheets, with maybe 5-year projections, risk v. return, etc. In other words, you're spending x amount of time and money on maintaining forums for the next five years, so at what point will these efforts show results?
