I have no friggin idea. I've never had any reason to push it.
found this : The scroll lock key is intended to temporarily stop the scrolling of text or halt the operation of a program. Today, many programs commonly do not utilize or function properly with this key. |

The scroll lock key had use in the days of the original IBM pc. When it was turned on the arrow keys scrolled around the page, but when it was turned off it moved the cursor. It doesn't really serve any purpose now. (Microsoft excel is one of the few programs that has a use for it)
