I have no friggin idea. I've never had any reason to push it.
found this :
The scroll lock key is intended to temporarily stop the scrolling of text or halt the operation of a program. Today, many programs commonly do not utilize or function properly with this key.

Thumbs up Re: whats the use of the scroll lock?

The scroll lock key had use in the days of the original IBM pc. When it was turned on the arrow keys scrolled around the page, but when it was turned off it moved the cursor. It doesn't really serve any purpose now. (Microsoft excel is one of the few programs that has a use for it)

I dont know whats the use of it, I never used it. At first, I thought it would block the scroll down / up buttom at the mouse, but it does nothing ! I use Windows XP and a PC, maybe thats why it has no use here.

It's there so it could balance out the "lock" keys

Two is unbalanced and doesn't look good on a keybaord so they add that useless one to make it balanced.
