Default phishing scams.

I noticed that some of the phishing emails that I receive, when I click on the link and then delete the phishing portion of the url back to the main website homepage, the urls that they take me to are part of some fairly respectable looking websites. Does this mean that the website owners are not aware that their sites are being used for phishing puposes? How is this being done?

PS. Just spotted another thread in ther internet marketing forum that I could have tagged this onto
