Hi Panky, and welcome to business-talk.

And some very good points, too - if I'm not careful I get very sloppy with demographical information, instead opting for "intuition" and expecting it to pay off (not all the time, though ).

As for brand marketing - entirely the point, and with places such as the penguin game almost certainly developing high traffic, it would definitely be somewhere to consider as part of a wider campaign.

On the point of viral marketing itself - there's a very current example at the moment - a place called "orkut.com". A couple of weeks back it was stated that Google employees were hanging out there. Then everyone wanted to join, especially if they could meet the Google people (and learn about the algo)!

Now it's hard to count the number of SEO's, Webmasters and Webdesigns I know who aren't a member of Orkut. That's viral marketing.

Thumbs up Re: Viral marketing

Brian,

Do a search on a SE for emulator with the appropriate Jet Set Willy or Manic Miner. I spent HOURS playing it one day recently... oh the memories of copying tape to tape the Spectrum games from a geeky neighbour ... TWENTY YEARS AGO !!! Christ !!!

On that note, the pub around the corner have just put in a table top video game (you know the ones where you sit across from each other) with PacMan, Space Invaders and that other spacey one moon alien I think it was called...

Completely pissed with my Aussie girlfriend playing space invaders was a brilliant way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

LOL

JEt Set Willy? Can someone show me where? And does it still have the music? And is there a version of Manic Miner online?

Jet Set Willy... I remember that although it was a fraction after my time. I was a C64 owner, and have fond recollections of Hovver Bovver, Attack of the Mutant Camels (and the sequel, Revenge of...), Hunchback of Notre Dame... and other classics. Anyone remember Bozo's Night Out - a classic where you had to guide Bozo home after umpteen pints...

Ah...the days of the Spectrum 48k vs the Commodore 64.

Funny to think any one of these forum pages is probably larger that the memory of either.

How did those developers do achieve such remarkable feats?

And tomorrow I will definitely do some Googling.
